Interview with Skibidi Times

June 28, 2025

I had the chance to sit down with Jei and Sasha from Skibidi Times for a fun interview! Read below.

Q1: Can you introduce and tell us a bit about yourself?

Jei: Hey I'm Jei, I'm just barely a Gen Z netizen (it's debatable though) and the creator of Skibidi Times. I have a lot of experience in web design, digital marketing and directing online content from my previous employment, so I decided to use that to have a crack at topics I'm passionate about!

I used to be a tennis coach prior to that, so it’s quite a scene shift for me, but I'm very glad to be going for it with my little cousin!

Sasha: Hey, I'm Sasha, I'm a real Gen Z unlike Jei. LOL

I'm basically just doing what I do best, doom-scrolling through TikTok and meming, so I am fitting into this job well, sometimes I don't even realise I'm working! I am passionate about giving back, and I volunteer at my local youth centre once a week. I’m also a qualified nail tech and love being creative.

Q2: How did you two come to establish Skibidi Times?

Jei: I wanted to make a website that is versatile enough to cover multiple topics, but niche enough to not feel overwhelming, so covering the latest Gen Z and Gen Alpha trends gives me that opportunity to have a focused area, without getting too boring or repetitive! I see a lot of the latest memes and trends in my YouTube and TikTok feeds, but I knew I couldn't catch all of them and Sasha being more on the Alpha side of Gen Z (plus chronically online) makes her a great fit for the content creator role on the site!

Sasha: When Jei asked me to contribute to Skibidi Times I was very keen as this sort of thing is right up my alley.

Q3: How do you decide what to cover on Skibidi Times?

Jei: We both just naturally find topics from our social media feeds or friends/family, then we note them down in a sheet, check out how viral they actually are and bounce ideas off each other. Most of the time it's Sasha finding things though lol

Sasha: I am super chronically online, I always end up finding new stuff to write about just by scrolling TikTok, Insta Reels and watching YouTube all day. It's awesome that me doing research is just scrolling like I normally would. My friends and I also talk about and send each other new memes and trends all the time. And volunteering at my local youth centre has also helped heaps because the young people are always talking about random things or saying new slang I've never even heard of.

Q4: How did you discover blind boxes, POP MART and Labubu?

Sasha: I had first heard of Labubu in 2024 just by seeing it on TikTok. My sister had bought a Lafufu last year and my niece has 3 of them. Since then all of my family have gone Labubu crazy with both of my nieces wanting real Labubus. When I went to the shop we actually saw a Labubu in the window and they begged us to get it. When Jei brought up that he had seen a Labubu video and asked about it I was immediately excited. I knew quite a lot about Labubu and was super excited to write about it for Skibidi Times.

Jei: I first came across Labubu in a TikTok video and thought it looked kind of interesting, so I asked Sasha if she knew what it was. She started giving me the whole lore, backstory and explaining all the different types. Since she was already pretty into it and the trends were blowing up, we decided to dive in and cover it on Skibidi Times.

Q5: Why do you think Gen Z and Gen Alpha are drawn to Labubu specifically?

Jei: I think Labubu are so popular with Gen Z and Alpha because they are super cute, just a little weird and just neutral enough to blend in well with outfits to be almost fashionable. I think the name Labubu is also cutesy and memorable compared to other collectible doll ranges.

Q6: How has social media in your opinion driven the virality of Labubu?

Jei: Like any other trend, social media has accelerated the spread of Labubu Fever, especially since high profile influencers and celebrities like Blackpink's Lisa, Kim Kardashian and James Charles are showing them off. I do think that Labubu was inevitable though, especially considering the success it already had in Hong Kong and China prior to its social media fame.

Q7: Is there anything special you are planning for Skibidi Times?

Jei: We've only just gotten started really, so there are still several other areas we want to branch out into, as well as consolidating our current categories. For collectibles, as well as Labubu, we have our eyes on Crybaby, Sonny Angel, Youtooz and Smiski. As for other topics, the next areas we want to branch into more heavily are Memes, Influencers and Gen Z News.

We also want to start being active on social media, with TikTok Meme Explainer Shorts and longer form YouTube Skibidi News Recaps, so lots of exciting stuff ahead!

Sasha: I'm especially excited to dive into the influencer space and start making Skibidi News Recaps for TikTok and YouTube. That’s definitely my vibe.

Final Thoughts:

Jei and Sasha: Thanks again Pop Mart World for the Labubu pics and info, as well as for the opportunity to collaborate with you and the interview today! All the best with your website and future projects too!
